What are Brain Injuries?
A brain injury is caused by damage to the brain that results in a change of the brain's neuronal activity which disrupts the normal function of the brain. This can be caused by a blow, bump, or jolt to the head, the head suddenly and violently moving or hitting a hard surface, or not having enough oxygen.
Associated symptoms can be:
- Loss of consciousness
- Loss of skills
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Problems sleeping
Types of head injuries:
- Concussion
- Contusion
- Anoxic brain injuries
- Penetrating brain injuries
These injuries can be caused by trauma during sports, falls, car accidents, drowning, electrical shocks, among others.
